As i understand it...this graphic visually...roughly, represents how files on window vs linux are written to the drive.
The upper left is a fresh install + defraging of windows drive...the upper right is fresh install of linux.
The windows drive...when files/applications are changed/updated...it will displace itself and or it's adjacent neighbor forcing it to another part of the drive = fragmenting
On linux... the files are written more towards the center of the drive leaving plenty of room on either side of the file for expansion/ change
